Submit Your Story!
The editors at Hunting Illustrated magazine would love to receive your hunting stories and photos! We include several stories in every issue, and on our website, from hunters like you! We want to hear about your adventure harvesting your trophy of a lifetime. We especially want the photographs you collected on your adventure. Our magazine and website come alive with personal stories that are enjoyed by our readers.
Please follow the following guidelines when submitting your stories:
Photos: Please submit your original, high resolution photographs. Photos must be respectful—no sitting on the animals, etc.; position antlers so they are highlighted—against the sky or uncluttered background, rather than in front of bushes or trees which will disguise the profile. Make sure your face is visible in the photo as well—this is your day! Also, we want several photos to choose from: your trail cam shots, your campsite, the hunters in your party, the scenery where you are hunting, other animals you encounter, etc.
Stories: We want to know how you chose the area you are hunting in, what pre-season scouting did you engage in; how did you track your prey, who joined you in the hunt, what did it feel like to succeed, how did your animal score—especially trophy-size animals? What equipment did you use? Are you a woman- or youth-hunter? Your story needs to be within 800-1800 words—don’t worry about punctuation/grammar—we have editors that will help to fine-tune your story.
